This cold brew is creamy and caramel sweet, but you don’t need a dentist appointment after consuming this delicious human rocket fuel concoction.

โš’๏ธ Equipment

  • 1000ml swing top glass bottle for end product (shop at IKEA for KORKEN)
  • measurement cup at least 1 liter
  • teaspoon (but more cool is a digital scale with 0,1 gram accuracy)
  • measurement glas 100ml (science lab style is the best)
  • small glas tea cup and tea spoon
  • water boiler/kettle
  • spoon
  • funnel
  • coffee-filter holder for paper coffee filter
  • cheesecloth
  • sieve
  • paper masking tape + permanent marker (for label)

๐Ÿ“‹ Ingredient list

  • 50 ml cream 30% fat (shelf stable is ok)
  • 500 ml water (roomtemp)
  • 500 ml cold-brew coffee extract (see chapter Cold-brew coffee extract)
  • 3 teaspoons cane sugar (diluted in water) - Around 12,6 grams total
  • 20 ml tap water (for the cane sugar concentrate sirup)

This ingredient list dilutes the coffee extract by 1:1 with plain water. Which gives a good taste/caffeine kick. If you want more caffeine kick you can use 2 parts extract on 1 part water. Using only coffee extract is not recommended taste wise and high caffeine content.

โ˜• Cold-brew coffee extract

Cold brew is fantastic because it’s less acidic and naturally sweeter than hot-brewed coffee. The base recipe is simple, but there’s a lot of room to experiment with ratios and flavors.

This sub-recipe is the “Classic Cold Brew Concentrate” it creates a strong concentrate that you will dilute when serving, which is the standard way to make cold brew.

IngredientMetricImperialNotes
Coffee Grounds125g1 cup (whole beans)Must be coarsely ground (like coarse cornmeal or sea salt)
Filtered Cold Water1 Liter4 cupsUse filtered water for the best flavor
Ratio (Coffee:Water)1:8 by weight1:4 by volumeThis is a strong concentrate

WARNING: You may consume this concentrate but be prepared for a panic attack because of the maximum amount of caffeine is extracted from the ground coffee. You will not sleep ;-).

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Brewing method

  1. Grind the Coffee: Grind your coffee beans on the coarsest setting possible. This is crucialโ€”too fine a grind will result in cloudy, over-extracted, and gritty coffee.
  2. Combine & Steep: Place the coarse grounds in a large container (mason jar, pitcher, or French press). Pour the cold water over the grounds. Stir gently to ensure all the grounds are saturated.
  3. Wait: Cover the container and let it steep.
    • At Room Temperature: 12 to 15 hours.
    • In the Refrigerator: 18 to 24 hours (a slower, gentler extraction).
    • Tip: Steeping for longer than 24 hours can start to extract bitter flavors.
  4. Strain (Filter): The next day, strain the coffee to separate the grounds from the liquid.
    • Best Method: Pour the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve lined with cheesecloth, a nut milk bag, or a paper coffee filter. You may need to do this in batches and filter it twice for a clean brew.
    • French Press Method: Slowly push the plunger down. You may still need to filter the final liquid through a paper filter or cheesecloth to remove fine sediment.
  5. Store: Transfer the concentrate to an airtight container and refrigerate. It will keep well for up to 1-2 weeks, but the flavor is best in the first week.

๐ŸงŠ Serving and Diluting

The liquid you made is a concentrate and is typically too strong to drink straight. You need to dilute it.

Dilution Ratio (Concentrate:Liquid)Resulting Strength
1:1 Ratio (Our Recommendation)Smooth, strong, and balanced
2:1 RatioVery strong (for a big caffeine kick)
1:2 RatioLighter and less intense

๐Ÿฅค Classic Cold Brew Serve

  1. Fill a glass with (crushed) ice.
  2. Add 1 part Cold Brew Concentrate and 1 part cold water or milk (dairy or non-dairy). An extra variant with a dash of dairy cream makes a dream!
  3. Stir till it splashes and a vortex is seen and enjoy your beverage!
